Adi Kailash

What to know

One of the unexplored gems of Uttarakhand, Adi Kailash is believed to be the second home of Lord Shiva. Located in the Pithoragarh district of the Kumaon Region, at an altitude of 6310 metres, Adi Kailash is the second Kailash out of the Panch Kailash (or Five Kailash). It is popular among the Shiva Bhakts with the names Baba Kailash and Chota Kailash. According to the Hindu Mythology, Adi Kailash is a place of great importance for the devotees of Lord Shiva. Adi Kailash is believed to be the first stoppage for the marriage possession of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati that commenced from Kailash Mansarovar. Lord Shiva got the name of Adi Yogi because it is said that he used to practise yoga and meditation at Adi Kailash. The demon king Ravana got the blessing of 10 heads by meditating here. The power and energy of this place are unmatchable.

Earlier the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra was conducted by trekking of about 200km due to which a limited number of people went on the yatra. But now with the development of the road network, the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra has become easily motorable and more number of devotees can visit these places to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) has been the sole organiser of the 18 days Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra by Trek for more than four decades. In 2020, the yatra was cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic. In 2021, KMVN did not operate and Trip To Temples became the leading private company to organise the yatra. In 2022, Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam signed an MoU with Trip To Temples and has chosen them as their official partner for conducting the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra.
